Dieter Zwicky was born and raised in Basel, Switzerland. After completing his baccalaureate studies, he was invited to attend the world-renowned Swiss hotel school, “Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne” (EHL) where his demonstrated expertise in hotel and restaurant management would earn him a "Diplôme D’Etudes Hôtelières Supérieures".
A love of travel and interest in different cultures later brought Dieter to Northern California. It was there that he served as Operations Manager for the Washington Square Bar & Grill, a popular restaurant located in the Italian North Beach section of San Francisco. The distinguished eatery offered live jazz and served as a well known meeting venue for novelists and politicians. Dieter managed multiple areas of the restaurant, including PR and business development, kitchen and office management, and quality assurance. As it would happen, an additional task featured prominently among his responsibilities, that of coaching and developing the restaurant’s multi-cultural employees; it was an aspect of his managerial role for which Dieter had a special affinity.
After living and working in San Francisco for eight years, Dieter returned to Zurich to be closer to his family. He joined American Express International Inc. in a high level management capacity serving the risk management function as well as that of customer service. Ultimately, he would go on to lead Switzerland’s Platinum Card travel division. Dieter developed a reputation for honing high performing work teams through his solid recruiting, coaching and employee development efforts. Under his inspirational leadership, sales targets were consistently surpassed and the overall productivity of each department he managed was shown to increase substantially.
Following a decade of dedicated service to American Express, Dieter set out on a year-long trip around the world. His travels would reinforce his personal belief in the power of adventure - to renew, restore, and provide novel experiences that lead one to uncover new perspectives. It was during that voyage that Dieter's future direction would become clear: to help others embrace their passions and lead more enriched lives. Upon his return to Europe, he commenced his professional coaching career with intensive coaches’ training at The Coaches Training Institute (CTI) in London. This would set the stage for the beginnings of “i-Coach”.
As a coach, Dieter principally concentrates on work with private clients. He has also authored numerous coaching articles in monthly publications and has occupied a role as course leader on a project for the Canton of Zurich facilitating unemployed individuals’ re-entry into the job market. Dieter’s many satisfied coaching clients recognise him as an attuned listener with an easy, dynamic style and an unusual ability to facilitate clarity around what they value, thus creating the momentum for positive enduring change in their lives.
